Whistler, B.C. is probably one of my favorite places in the world.  I’ve spent the last 25 years in Whistler for long weekends, summer vacations, romantic getaways, skiing.  It has been phenomenal to watch Whistler grow.    In Whistler always enjoy swimming, biking, playing by the emerald mountain lakes and inhaling the clean, clear mountain air.    in the last 15 years, people discovered Whistler and it became a haven for everyone looking to escape city life and embrace mountain adventure.  The accommodations became more diverse with luxury homes, villas, condos and upscale hotels – one no longer had to enjoy the “roughing it” adventure.

We went to Whistler for the Memorial Day Weekend and Whistler is still a remarkable place!  Preparations are underway for the 2010 Olympics and construction is everywhere  There is much bustle along the Sea to Sky Highway and in the Whistler Village area, but the destination is worth the trip!    The scenery along the Sea to Sky Highway resembles the fjords of Norway with sparkling mountains and deep dark coves and inlets along the road.  The ferries chug along the waterways and it isn’t uncommon to see a cruise ship headed for Alaska.   Waterfalls, eagles, hawks, mountain lakes, rock cliffs (look for the rock climbers on the cliffs just outside of Squamish) are abundant on each side of the road.

When you arrive in Whistler, consider staying just outside the Village’s main area.  The Four Seasons and the Westin are close, but quiet.  The Pan Pacific has suites with kitchenettes and is home to the magical Dub Linh Gate Pub – the Guinness and Lobster Bisque and Shepherd’s Pie are divine and the Veggie Burgers are the best AND homemade!  If you want a classic Canadian experience, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler is a touch of Canadiana with a beautiful spa and ski-in/ski-out access.  The Residence Inn at Whistler has among the best locations in Whistler, it serves a wonderful breakfast, the rooms are immaculate and the staff is friendly.

Consider Whistler!  There is so much to do for the active adventurers, the golfers, the spa divas, the foodies, the shoppers….  It is truly a 4 season resort and it is growing only bigger and better as it builds towards the 2010 Olympics.  Discover Whistler before the rest of the world!
